MAYOKA’S RESPONSE TO COMMUNITY’S REQUEST TO SPONSOR RESOLUTION FOR TERM LIMITS Community members at the July 6, 2010 Huntington Town Board Meeting formally requested Councilman Mark Mayoka to sponsor a resolution for Term Limits for the elected members of the Huntington Town Council at the next Town Board Meeting on August 3, 2010. Mayoka has addressed the concerns of the community by personally sponsoring a resolution to schedule a public hearing to consider the adoption of local law to prohibit an elected Town Board Member from serving more than two consecutive terms of four years of office in the same elective office. Councilman Mayoka believes that term limits are a tool, which may be used to make elected Town Council positions more responsive to public needs through a continuous process of renewal and by encouraging more residents to compete in elections. “In providing a limited time of two consecutive terms of four years each, totaling eight years, we set a standard of accountability for elected Council Members to set goals and fulfill agendas and to attain their promises.” Councilman Mayoka will present and sponsor this resolution at the next August 3, 2010 Town Board Meeting but asks the community to provide the Town of Huntington with their own request by completing and filling out the survey, which is also available online at the Town of Huntington website. SURVEY Please complete and return the completed survey by fax (631) 351-3326 or email mmayoka@town.huntington.ny.us.

MAYOKA’S RESPONSE TO BOARD OF EDUCATION DECISION ON JACK ABRAMS “I cannot believe that the School Board failed to provide a public comment period for both sides before making their unilateral decision. It almost appears to be a violation of Free Speech under the First Amendment of the Constitution. Furthermore, I have had no discussion with any members of the Huntington School Board regarding the closing of Jack Abrams. I am disappointed that I was not consulted in this important decision making process. My main concern has always been for the health and safety of the children attending Jack Abrams. In this regard, I will do all that is in my power as a Huntington Town Councilman to reduce the level of crime in the area. I have spoken to County Executive Steve Levy and he has confirmed with me that this is a major priority on his agenda. I look forward to being a liaison between the Suffolk County PD, the Town Department of Public Safety, and the community at large in executing a Crime Crisis Mapping solution.”

Dignity Memorial Vietnam Wall to Visit Huntington Public can see Dignity Memorial Wall at Peter Nelson Park Oct. 1-3 Huntington Station, NY – Councilman Mark Cuthbertson, together with Supervisor Frank P. Petrone, Rep. Steve Israel and Town Board members, announced that the Dignity Memorial Wall – the traveling Vietnam War Memorial – will stop at the Town’s Peter Nelson Park (aka Oakwood Park) in late September for a week of commemorative events. The Wall, a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. -- has been touring the nation since 1990. This 240-foot long, eight-foot high, faux-granite replica contains the names of more than 58,000 Americans who died or are missing in Vietnam. To see the memorial, to touch it and experience its magnitude offers unforgettable moments of reflection and healing to thousands of visitors.
