Electric Vehicles Help Huntington and Islip Go Green
Towns take part in year-long field test of MINI E plug-in electric vehicles
The Towns of Huntington and Islip each took delivery today of six fully electric, zero-emission MINI E vehicles, as the two towns take part in a year-long study of whether electric vehicles are a viable option to meet the transportation needs of urban and suburban areas.
“Taking part in this field test is a logical extension of Huntington’s commitment to going green,” Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone said. “These electric vehicles join the Town’s growing fleet of hybrids, flex-fuel and alternative-fuel cars, truck and buses and serve as yet another indication of our resolve to take a leadership role in reducing the Town’s carbon footprint and dependence on foreign oil. We look forward to putting these cars through their paces.”

IMAC announces that it is leaving the Huntington Theater The Inter-Media Art Center Inc, a 36 year old non-profit Performing Arts organization located in the Village of Huntington, has announced that it has moved out of the theater facility which it has been renting for the past 26 years. The decision was based on declining support, rapidly rising costs, a changing arts-scene and a building with too many problems and too old to fix. Although this is the end of IMAC’s tenancy at this building it’s certainly not the end of IMAC. IMAC has decided to broaden its mission and return to its pioneering roots through a number of activities. One of our new directions will involve using electronic media to better connect audiences with venues in an effort to increase revenues to venues and connect patrons to venues in new, easy and accessible ways. In addition, it’s an obvious conclusion that Huntington, with the reputation as “The Little Apple”, needs a theater. Toward that end IMAC and the Huntington Town Supervisor, Frank Petrone will explore the possibilities of bringing back a world class performing arts center to Huntington.
